Five decades hanging around smoky jazz clubs has produced these intimate portraits of some of the greatest jazz legends of all time. Once a professional jazz drummer himself, Sefton beautifully captures the soul of the performance.
Sefton’s jazz collection was brought together as part of the 2010 London Jazz Festival for a major exhibition at the Kings Place gallery, Sefton Samuels: Jazz Legends. He has previously shown his jazz pictures at the Barbican Centre.
His passion for classical music is also evident in these photos of leading musicians and conductors. The classical collection has been brought together at the Royal Northern College of Music.
Sefton's jazz and classical photographs have also been published in book form - Jazz Legends: Up Close and Classics In Subtle Light. These works - together with his Northerners book - have all been accepted into the V&A Museum’s National Art Library.
